Once again a superb interview!! Well done on talking at length and in such honest detail with the legend that is Steve Jones. He is still a role model, an example of what running really is, a simple, uncomplicated exercise/activity that anyone can do. It may need hard work, it may hurt, but the benefits are so rewarding at whatever level we want.

Well Tom & Martin for getting this interview and letting us hear Steve's thoughts - inspiring as ever.

Good shout Keith - totally agree!

I think a Steve Jones book would be fascinating - I know I would certainly buy it (I'm not aware of him having done one)

Agree with everyone. Brilliant interview. I could have listened to a part 3!
Funnily enough I was watching an episode of Family Guy tonight and a scene where Peter is running away and stewy says " look at him, he runs like a Welshman". Now Peter likes pies, mars bars and beer as well!! Bet you never thought you'd see steve jones and peter griffen compared to each other.

Brilliant interview - Jonsey was not only a great runner but a great clubman as well. He hit the nail on the head with so many of his comments and great to here his retelling of those classic moments.
Back in the mid eighties I was one of those many runners in his wake at Newport Harriers. He always had time for other runners. Part of the reason for those hi flying days of UK distance running was the number of people running and running lots. There must have been a 30 or more runners training twice a day running 60-100 miles a week just from that one club. All of that especially inspired by Jonesy and other top runners in the club lifted the overall standard. As an example in 86 0r 87 I ran a 31:17 10km and didn't make Newport Harriers top team for the road relays so there were 12 guys faster than that in that one place. Across the county there were probably twenty or more clubs with the same level of depth back then.
