For All Events launch The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon - Sunday October 20th 2013.

The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon starts and finishes at the Heslington campus of York University. The scenic course winds through Walmgate Bar, Parliament Street and St Helen’s Square. Landmarks along the route include the Mansion House, the famous Betty’s tearooms and the imposing York Minster. Runners will leave the city walls via the ornate Monk Bar and then journey on through mile upon mile of flat landscape around the Vale of York and the pretty villages and towns of North and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Mike Tomlinson and the team at For All Events are passionate about making the Yorkshire Marathon meaningful and exciting for runners.

39:55 - TRAINING TALK - Marathon countdown.  Week 2.

- Progression - things don’t need to ramp up each week.  Get your levels established first and make sure you can handle the workload/tolerate the volume - then increase.

- A key feature of getting progression right is not to increase the quantity (frequency and duration) and the quality (how fast you run) of your workouts at the same time!  Good progression is balanced, seamless and smooth.

- You cannot keep overloading your system by running more and more or you’ll breakdown.

- It isn’t always a one way street - once you are running more often, longer and harder true progression takes place by doing less not more at times in your programme.

    Tom;

I was about 10 places ahead of you at the Yorkshires. How fast was that first lap? Felt like a fugitive when the marshalls started shouting 'leaders coming through'. Just managed to escape the lapping. You had alot of support around the course I noticed. Great effort. Entered for the Nationals?

    Tom Williams Says:

    Hey Lukas,

First short lap was crazy, 6:08 for the mile for me and I felt like I was in reverse... two long laps later and I was!

Yep, I'm down for the Nationals and hopefully a better pacing strategy ;-)

Wow! Yorkshire marathon sold out already!

    Anthony Batty Says:

Yep - listened to the show, went to signup, and it was already full. Only 5,500 places though, so not that big, and hopefully they can add more!

    Emmy Hannon Says:

@Tom - perhaps you can get a short snippit from Mr. Tomlinson on how he feels that the Yorkshire Marathon sold out so quickly? I bet that they're thoroughly chuffed that so many people want to visit Yorkshire! :)

I've heard that they're trying to add more places (up to 6000) but it's not certain yet.

Yorkshire? I went to Yonkers in NY for my letter Y in my marathon A-Z. I could have save a few quid.

    Julia Thorn Says:

I am doing the alphabet too. What are you doing for X? I know there are Chinese cities that start with an X when Anglicised but is that cheating? It's only the current convention and conventions change.

Another great podcast. I have run the York Jane Tomlinson before but I didn't realise all the stuff she and her husband did.
