Guys, is it just me but have you changed one of your questions you ask every one of your interviewees? didn't it used to be what's your favourite training run / session NOT just your favourite run?
Episode 47 - Prof Tim Noakes
Released: Wednesday 1st December 2010
Legendary running Prof Tim Noakes gives a brilliant interview about central governor theory. Tom and Martin talk about coughs and colds. There's plenty of news from the world of running. We hear from superstar Tony in his trials and there's a great winner of the week for Movember.

Love the podcast but...
This week's sound editing was a bit erratic. I like to listen with the headphones on so as not to disturb OH and had to turn the volume up to hear Tony's Trials only to jump a mile and turn the volume down for the training section then I just gave up trying to hear the questions for Prof Tim Noakes as the two volumes were so different. Sorry to be critical, but it did kinda spoil it for me. :(

Ian... well spotted, we started out asking what the person's favourite running session was but interviewees kept talking about their favourite run. The original idea was to build a table of their run sessions so that Marathon Talk listeners could repeat them, it seems to have naturally transformed into simply their favourite run. We may change things round a bit in the future...
Scott... well spotted as well, I did say we'd post it on here... apologies! It is however available on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/marathontalk

One of the best episodes ever. I'm looking forward to another long run tomorrow so I can listen to it again and pick up all the bits I missed first time around cos I was concentrating on pace/road crossings/not falling over.
Thanks

Hi Teresa,
Thanks for your feedback, without our listeners telling it how it is we'd never know if we were getting things right or not.
We had to do this week's interview as Skype to phone, as opposed to the usual Skype to Skype, which does make it more difficult to get the sound right. Having said that, I had a listen last night and it sounded OK on my iPod & Bose headphones. My intro line to Tim was a little quiet but after that if anything I'd say my questions were a little louder than his answers. I do wonder sometimes if different playback devices are more/less sensitive to audio levels.
I may be able to fiddle with the levels on the interview and send you a copy of just that on its own, drop us an email to info@marathontalk.com if you think that might help.
Thanks for supporting the show,
Tom

What a great interview - really thought provoking. I do question the notion that a runner chooses to come second .... why would anyone choose this ..... to choose suggests that a decision has been made, if it is not made through the runners own deliberate thought then can it really be a choice? I will listen to this interview again and think about it some more but I wonder if choice is the right word here?
Thanks for all the great company you provide on my long runs and the encouragement and help.

Hi Matthew,
Like you I really loved the stuff Tim Noakes had to say... largely because it stimulated more thought than any other running conversation I've had.
The term 'choose' is an interesting one... I know there have been times when I've 'chosen' not to beat another runner as discomfort increased over the last mile or so... maybe not my first choice, but would I have done the same with a million dollars at stake, a gun to my head or my mum shouting encouragement from the sidelines?
I'm sure we'll re-visit it many many times,
T
