01:12:55 - Winner of  the Week

Tony Hayhoe and John Dunn.

Nominated by Graham McLachlan. ‘Both have helped me immensely over the last year to rediscover some of my running form , they both put up with my slower pace in training and always run back from the finish of races to then encourage me across the line, they often give me a lift to races and not forgetting the fact that they always have spare safety pins cos I nearly always forget mine’

Another great podcast and loads of great information. I enjoyed listening to your advice and guidance on interval training and wholeheartedly agree.
My group at Portsmouth Joggers Club run some form of interval/resistance training every Tue. This week we ran 4 sets of 200m-400m-600m-800m reps. Between each rep we jogged 200m as a short recovery. So each set had 2000m of hard work and 800m of recovery. I tend to run my speedwork/intervals at LT pace which equates to 5:50mm to 6:00mm which for me is ideal for marathon training for a 2:50 marathon. Believe me I was blowing at the end of this session but feel so much better and stronger for it.
I only wish the slower groups at my club took a leaf out of our book and tried something similar in order to improve their performance rather than do the same thing week in week out and not get any better.

Keep up the great work Martin and Tom

1750 runs for Jantastic. Not totally sure I want to risk winning a place in another marathon but maybe fate will dictate that!

Recently discovered the site and am loving the podcasts. Exactly what i've been looking for and am slowly making my way through the archived shows. Have had a very stop start 2010 and definately feel my mojo returning. Looking to do the Bournemouth 10k in April and possibly the New Forest marathon in september. I was wondering if you could answer my question? How often should I have my gait analysed (last time was 2008)? Keep up the good work gents!

Thanks for the podcast Martin & Tom. I couldn't' hear Mike Bushell too well this week either I'm a bit deaf, Mike's mic was a bit far away or my headphones are rubbish when its windy outside.

Colin Grace here: my fantastically sophisticated and top secret Excel algorithm (i.e. guesswork!) is that there will be exactly 4524 runs registered in January. A place in Edinburgh marathon would be fantastic!

5501. I have put it all through the spreadsheet and applied various mathematical theories re probability, calculus, trigonometry, standard deviation, a bit of multiplication and long division, multiplied by pie and the square root of the denominator, etc. You know, all that complicated stuff that we learnt in college, and also taking into account the long range weather forecast through to the end of the month in each of the countries that the registered Jantastic entrants are from (representing) plus the fluctuating exchange rates in each country and the issues with the economy as a whole, and also considering that possibility that some entrants may get injured between now and the end of the month and have to reduce their training substantially, I have worked out with almost 100% certainty that it will be more than 1.
