Another great podcast. Makes me want to run, but, I have to work tonight to sell running shoes to other people....and the fact it's 2 degrees F makes it hard to get outside.

Great podcast as usual lads. I have 3 questions to pose to the guest next week re exercise and the immune system.

    1. Is it true that exercising too early in the morning can drive off essential hormones necessary for the efficient functioning of the immune system?

    2. Is it true that running in the rain is not going to increase the likelihood of catching a cold, but that if you already have one allowing the nose area to become cold and wet will facilitate the cold virus getting worse?

    3. Is it true that viruses directly affect the neurotransmitter levels in the brain thus creating a depressed mood which in turn reduces the bodies immune response?

If his answer to question 3 is yes, then how does the virus achieve this?

I've just had a bad couple of days post Brighton Half having been freezing, wet and cold after I finished and subsequently not warming down or stretching out properly. Being unable to run without pain in my calves since then I have been down in the dumps and mentally unsettled as to being unable to find the motivation to get going again.
Then this week's podcast couldn't have come at a better time in regards to fatigue and physical struggles and everything reassured me that I'm not alone. I'm now feeling a lot better in my mind and want to say thanks for that.

A British chap ran the Tokyo Marathon today and filmed the run on his iphone, streaming it live to over 500 people here:

As I write he is still running, just past the 10k mark. Amazing to be able to watch someone run a marathon in another country, live over the internet via his phone.

I don't know if I'm too late to post a question for this week's guest, but I was wondering if runs in very cold weather can make you more prone to respiratory infections? I had pneumonia a few years ago and someimes after running in cold weather I feel pain in my lungs similar to the pain felt when I had pneumonia (only happily much less severe, and it goes away once I've gone inside and got warm). I lived in Prague when I had pneumonia and my doctor advised me to keep my lower face covered when I went outside so that the air I breathed in was not as cold. Is it worth doing this when running?

I have a question for a podcast. Not sure if it's been covered or not in a previous one! What are your views on the "Run/Walk" approach to distance running? It appears to be becoming more and more popular as a way to best manage your body during the run and help recovery after, especially if you're not at the level required to run the whole way non stop. It also seems to produce better times in some instances. I believe it's being used in Iron Man. I'm interested in your thoughts on that.

Hi guys, thanks so much for the discussion of getting tired - just what I needed at about mile 15 (of 16) this weekend just gone. You asked who we'd like to hear from - well, having just done Yasso 800s for the first time (and acing them - tonight definitely qualifies for one of my best sessions - hurrah! All looking good for sub 4 at VLM then;-) ), I'd love to hear you talking to Bart Yasso if you could manage to get him on the line somehow. And of course would love to hear from Paula (if you could get her on) at some point.
Thanks again for a great show!
