All about running. By runners, for runners.

Episode 93 - James Adams

Released: Wednesday 19th October 2011

Tom is the Daddy. This weeks show centres on a fab interview with James Adams. Incredibly James ran from LA to NYC in 70 days covering in excess of a marathon a day! We've still got Tony's Trials and don't worry if you fessed up on facebook, were in our Marathon Talk top 5 or even if you are 80 years old and scorched to a 3hr 15 marathon or 100 years old and ran your 8th marathon. We'll cover it all next week.

In response to Tony's point about overpriced race photos, I agree entirely! I'd like to draw attention to Bryan Dale (www.racephotos.org.uk) who puts his photos up for free after the event, usually within 24 hours. His work is much appreciated!

Great interview with James - and yes, race photos are so expensive. £9.95 for one digital print from Abingdon :-(

Absolutely excellent interview with James. Raised the hairs on the back of my neck on two occaisions - what an inspiring man.

And an extra thank you: Got stuck in the M3 closure this morning (stationary, engine off, for an hour north of Basingstoke). sun shining. marathontalk podcast through the car stereo. no meetings to rush to. what more could one ask for? Whilst I hope that those involved in the accident 1/2 mile infront of me are okay, I couldn't help thinking that I was in a temporary cacoon of contentment, and for that I thank you. That's my rave this week.

One of the things I like about fell running events is that in all the ones I have done there have been at least one photographer at the event who post all the race pictures online, enabling people to put links to them, copy them etc (although they do ask for contributions!). I guess this captures the spirit of fell races? (the last one cost me, I think, £1.50 to enter!!)

I enjoyed the episode as well.

As for race photos, I completely agree, I'd gladly pay an extra few dollars for a simple picture. A marathon I just did wants $20 for a low res picture, and $35 for a high res image! If I wanted it enhanced on a poster, mug, or plack, I'd be happy to use the service, but it feels like they are aiming at the single event runner that could justify it (but only once). What percentage of event participants actually buy something at these prices? Grrrr
